Investing in Resilience

Partners In Resilience, Inc. is dedicated to empowering youth from Kenyan children's homes by providing essential support and resources. We offer mentorship, financial assistance, and practical partnership to help these young men and women achieve their goals. Our work is rooted in deep belief in their potential and resilience, and we are privileged to walk alongside them as they build their futures.

The Double Wound

Each young adult faces two moments of abandonment, first at birth and again when leaving the only home they’ve known. At PIR, we understand this journey and strive to provide the support they need.

Every alum of the children's home carries two experiences of abandonment. The first came at birth, or shortly thereafter — left before they could understand why. The second came at the edge of adulthood, when the only home they'd ever known released them into a world with no family to call, no safety net to catch them, and no one who felt responsible for what happened next.

We Figured It Out

Rather than imposing a plan, we listened to their needs, adapting our approach to ensure every individual can focus on their immediate well-being before planning their future.

I didn't arrive in Nairobi with a polished program and a five-year plan. I arrived with a life coaching background, a deep love for these young adults, and an assumption that turned out to be very wrong: that coaching was what they needed first. It wasn't. You can't ask someone to plan for their future when they don’t know where their next meal is coming from. So we did what any good partner does: we listened, course-corrected, and refused to give up on them.

Real Change in Action

From starting businesses to opening schools, our alumni are creating opportunities for themselves and others, demonstrating the power of resilience and support in transforming lives.

Susan opened a school and today has 50 children enrolled. Joyce built a hair apprenticeship, creating opportunity not just for herself but for other young women who can't afford formal training. I launched an electric motorbike delivery business for 7 of the alums.  Paul is an artist, and he is set up with a shop which has a formal area for him to work now.  These are the kinds of things that PIR is investing in.
